Endoscopy uses a small camera on the endo of a flexible tube to look at airways and the gastro intestinal tract. It provides a non invasive way to image inside the body without surgery.
It is a valuable tool to inspect for and remove foriegn objects. It is also great to find damage that cannot be seen on other imaging like ultrasound or x rays also allowing sampling of the damage to help aid diagnosis and treatment options.
Reasons to use endoscopy to explore for pets include:
- Suspicion of ingestion or inhaled foreign material that may get stuck.
- Chronic coughing
- Chronic vomiting
- Regurgitation
- Investigating stomach ulceration or tumours
